Mark Your Calendars! Join us in celebrating Lunar New Year 2025 at the Museum of Chinese in America! We’re excited to return with a special performance of AAPI HEROES.

Experience the power and beauty of AAPI stories.

Dive into an enchanting evening with AAPI HEROES, where we follow our young explorer, Kai, on a captivating journey across time. This vibrant performance, rich in dance and storytelling, inspired by iconic Asian Figures such as Anna May Wong, Hollywood's first Chinese American star, and Bruce Lee, a legend in martial arts and philosophy. It also brings to life the mythic NuWa, Goddess of Creation, and the global K-pop phenomenon. The performance invites you on a journey filled with stories that illuminate the strength and resilience inherent in the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. 

Join us for an evening that not only entertains but also pays homage and celebrates the vibrant legacy of Asian American history!

J CHEN PROJECT is performing an excerpt of AAPI HEROES at the Ailey Citigroup Theater as part of the AAPI Dance Festival presented by The Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company and Asian American Arts Alliance (A4). Along with J CHEN PROJECT, this evening also includes thrilling performances from the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company, Jadin Wong Artist Kanon Sugino, Jadin Wong Artist of Exceptional Merit Nikaio Bulan Sahar Thomashow (they/he) and KAŌS Dance Collective, and Dana Tai Soon Burgess Dance Company.

Day 1 is on Sunday, Jan 11 from 1:45–3:45 pm also at The Ailey Citigroup Theatre (link here). J CHEN PROJECT performs at 2:45pm

Day 2 is on Sunday, Jan 12 from 4:15–6:15pm also at The Ailey Citigroup Theatre (link here). J CHEN PROJECT performs at 5:15 pm

The AAPI Dance Festival at APAP is a part of the Dance Managers Collective Showcase.

General Admission Tickets are $25. If you would like to attend both days, we encourage you to reserve a Two-Day Pass at the special price of $30.

J CHEN PROJECT presents an immersive evening of dance that reimagines the past, present, and future through an Asian American cultural lens. Take a journey through the spaces of the Museum of Chinese in America and explore different worlds filled with AAPI stories of strength, resilience, and resistance in the face of ongoing challenges and discrimination.  AAPI HEROES aims to educate, raise awareness, and inspire audiences to stand in solidarity and take action to address and combat these issues while also honoring the rich fruits of AAPI history.  * This project is funded by the Coalition for Asian American Children and Families (CACF) through the NYS AAPI Community Fund.
